No surprises here. Your reaction to the selections is the same as it was when you first got the news of the covers album! I get weird hunches sometimes, and I've always thought that he's trying to reign in any potential growth after what happened earlier this year. Like he feels safer not having the world's spotlight shining so brightly on him. The fewer people that know about him, the fewer to hurt him. A less-important CD would help foster that, then to make up for it he'd lay it all out in concert for the fans. Like I said, just one of my weird hunches. They always come true though.

VERY interesting, aubergine. Erin, I hope to he** that he surprises you so much that you have to print a retraction. Haha! But seriously, I hate to see the angry frown on your pretty face. Remember: this is the guy with the instincts that have always amazed us; this is the guy who grew up in the shelter of North Carolina, I bet singing some of these very songs at his momma's knee. And I'll bet he's always wanted to rearrange the he** out of them.

Erin - I knew I shouldn't read your post before I wrote mine! You captured exactly how I feel - frustrated and disappointed. I'm sure there's a ton of other fans out in the Clay Nation that feel the same way but are too afraid to say it. He's better than this, and we expect him to put forth his his best effort, and this ain't it. I'll be damned if we should apologize for it.

If you don't mind, once I put up my entry, I'd like to put a link to this entry.

Cella, I don't mind at all!

Actually Clay's insticts haven't ever impressed me. Clay's personality and who is as a person impresses the hell out of me, but I've disagreed with most of his professional choices.

aubergine, I loves you very much. And I'm beginning to think you're right. Or he's just the biggest idiot in the world when it comes to taste and style. He is a man who was having his hair permed in the 21st century after all.

Erin Thank you so much for writing exactly how I feel--I personally feel that Clive Davis has it in for him, but I know others disagree, and that's okay, but like aubergine, I have hunches also and mine has been screaming for over a year now that he wants Clay to fail, even if it means losing money. That's just me, though. I also will only be buying 1 CD-and no pre-ordering for me--I'm using a gift card and will buy on the first day, because I am still his bitch in that way, but for family and friends? No, they are on their own for this one....I'm not going back into credit card hell for someone who can afford a mansion while I rent, thankyouverymuch!

I think you already know that I share your disgust.

I keep thinking of a movie parody called Clive Davis Must Die...
Still working on one for JFing-noL...

I hope that Clay can make me tolerate those over-wrought, over-played, over-done by every wannabe, craptastic Canadian covers without power-puking, but I don't expect it after hearing the PromoSquad clips. If those arrangements are JFing-noL's idea of "fresh", I don't want her bringing the meat to the pot-luck dinner! Just sayin'.

I think Clive Davis actually sings on this album...
He doesn't want to hear Clay on the radio - the radio - the radio!
It doesn't look like Clay even put up a fight
He needs to be brought to the wall so the broads can ---- some sense into him.

I agree completely. Clay's taste in music is appalling. I wish he would do something original. I can understand why the lyrics to Back for More may not be appropriate at this point - "this song is all about us/how do they know about us/what happened was just between us/and now the whole world knows..." *ahem* - but that was the best damn original song he's ever sung! If all he wants to do is stand on stage and look pretty and perform other people's songs, why not go all the way and become a drag queen.

Funny you should say that, Kelley. When I was telling my best friend about the songs on the track list, and I got to the Celine Dion song, his exact words were "Because he wants to be a drag queen?!" His only memory related to that song is making out with his ex-boyfriend at a drag pageant. And every thought that comes into my head when I think of Celine Dion involves drag. Well, either drag or vomiting. But as for the lyrics to BFM...I thought about that, too, but if you think about it, EVERY love song ever written could be smooshed into meaning whatever anyone wants it to mean. Good lord, there are people who think every song on Kelly Clarkson's album is about Clay...which I guess makes him a big jerk? ;o)
