Bless you, Erin! It's been really hard to read all the "OMG! This is gonna be the best CD EVAH!" comments, and not share those feelings. I just can't judge what I've heard so far by a different standard than the one I've always applied to every other musical act out there simply because It's CLAAAAAY!. I haven't ingested Kool-Aid since my pre-teen years, and I'm not going to do it now.

I feel like I can't say anything about anything anymore. No matter how many times I spend an hour or two crafting, editing, and re-editing the most clear and tactful post that I think can't possibly be misunderstood by anyone...I still get labels slapped on my arse. Labels that don't truly fit me. Heck, the labels are even getting slapped on without my actually posting something first *cough*TomJones*cough* ;).

I'm not normally a negative person---far from it, in fact---but I refuse to blow sunshine up everybody's arse just because it's all they want or can handle. I can't do it. I don't really think it's personal or intentional, but I still feel like my presence is neither required nor desired on the new PPs right now. I hope I can get my purple "Happy" back, because I feel strangely more peaceful about other things in my life...
Ooops. Sorry for the rant. :/

Shieldmaiden! I'm so glad you posted in here! I've been wondering where the hell you've been! *spanks your butt* Feel free to rant here anytime. I don't know if it's a generational thing or a case of kool-aid that is causing the huge discrepency. Your presence is most desired and needed. I tried to hold back on the pp's because I know everyone doesn't want to hear it, but I'm not going to pretend that I love it or it's the best thing ever. I'm so hugely disappointed. And frankly, I've been hating most of his song choices for the past three years now, that I think I had all my hopes set on this album. I still love him, but I'm bummed out. Hopefully seeing him next month at Kimmel will bring back some of the joy. I want there to be joy!

Awww, that's not that bad of a review! But thanks for the warning anyway. I'm pretty much in agreement, except for Here You Come Again. It sounds promising to me. HATE the Celine song. 1000 Days grew on me, too, maybe just because it's familiar, I don't know. On Lonely No More (I love it now), I wish he'd sing "take me in, take me DOWN..." Yes Sir! The more I listen, the more I like.

Overall though, I'm trying to remain open-minded until I hear the full songs. Some people are over-the-moon about it like Sheildy pointed out, but those who are predicting certain doom and gloom are just as bad. Accept it, Clay AIken is a old-fashioned crooner, a song____ (uh, what's the opposite of songstress?) Anyway, he's like Sade. No one is asking her to pep it up a little.

And Shieldmaiden, if you're listening, YOU SHOULDN'T GIVE A FLYING FUCK WHAT ANYBODY THINKS ABOUT YOUR POSTS. Keep posting anyway. It's your board, too. I used to get all types of e-mails from people who didn't like or misunderstood what I said. I used to let it bother me, and oh boy did it bother me, but now I tell them all to take a leap.

Squeeeeee! It's Shieldmaiden. I actually *love* the snippets more than I thought I would. On first listen, I was so frickin disappointed....I just felt so bad for Clay that he was stuck with....that. Then I just kept them on loop and turned up the volume on a decent player and WHAM! I fell in love with many of the songs.

I had both BYLM and RHW on my "I dare Clay to make me like this horrible song" list - and he freakin' did it! Those are two of my favorites by far. Every time that RHW comes back on, I swear I literally swoon. OMG - it's one of the worst songs ever written. Same with BYLM - as many times as you've heard that song and the Bryan Adams song, multiply that by 100 and that's how often I've had to hear them, thanks to Canadian Content laws. I'm still not sold on EID(IDIFY) but I positively love BYLM! I have no idea how he does it.

The song that stands out for me is also ATD - but because I think it's by far the weakest track in the bunch. I don't like his vocals and I can't stand the instrumentation. I think HYCA is divine....but as an album track - I don't want to see it as a single.

I think I'm gonna enjoy 12/14 songs, so that's way better than MoaM which is currently sitting at 7/12.

SuzyP, I'm just glad that the trolls won't be able to post their crap about me anymore! I hated being the town pariah. Whenever anyone sent me hate e-mail, you'd better believe they got a mouthful back from me. I can cuss up a storm when push comes to shove. (Yeah, tell me something I didn't know.....)

Pam, maybe that's my problem. I only listened to the clips once. I just couldn't make my ears (or my heart) suffer through it again. I can't agree with you Suzy about the crooner description...I would agree to calling him a balladeer and these are definitely ballads. They're just some of the shitiest ballads ever shat. And that's that. SHIELDMAIDEN YOU BETTER GET YOUR ASS BACK TO THE PP'S!
